St. Luke’s Medical Center (SLMC) issued a clarification on Thursday amid questions about the validity of a drug test taken by presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. at the hospital earlier this week.
Marcos Jr.’s spokesperson Vic Rodriguez earlier said that the former senator took a cocaine test on Monday at the SLMC-Global City, which yielded a negative result.
However, some netizens have alleged that the document, which was released by Marcos Jr.’s camp to the media, did not contain the SLMC’s letterhead and the hospital’s address was inaccurate.
Without mentioning Marcos Jr.’s case, SLMC said on Facebook that the format of the printed test result is “standard and common” among all healthcare facilities authorized by the Department of Health (DOH) to conduct dangerous drug tests.
“Regarding the mention of Barangay Ususan (in Taguig City) as our location, this is because that is the only available location in DOH Integrated Drug Test Operation Management Information System when St. Luke’s Medical Center – Global City was accredited in 2010,” it added.
The hospital then “strongly” encouraged the public to refrain from posting “misleading and inaccurate information” on social media. St. Luke’s also called on everyone to verify the information they receive from others.
Rodriguez on Wednesday appealed to Marcos Jr.’s critics not to destroy the reputations of institutions such as the SLMC.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier warned voters about a presidential aspirant who is using cocaine. He did not name the aspirant.
The Commission on Elections said last Friday that substance abuse is not a ground for an election candidate’s disqualification. — VBL, GMA News
