Lorenzana, Malaysian counterpart reaffirm commitment to defense cooperation

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana met with his Malaysian counterpart Hishammuddin Hussein to discuss bilateral cooperation and other issues.

In a statement on Friday, the Department of National Defense (DND) said that Lorenzana and Hishammuddin met via video conferencing to reaffirm their commitment to the implementation of the 1994 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Defense Cooperation.

The two ministers acknowledged the “significant progress of defense cooperation between the two countries,” the DND said.

They also discussed the current developments in the region, including ASEAN centrality, new partnerships, nuclear proliferation, possible spill-over of the effects of the situation in Afghanistan, and COVID-19 response.

“Both ministers expressed optimism that defense relations between the Philippines and Malaysia, and the trilateral cooperation with Indonesia will continue to develop in the years ahead,” the DND said. — VBL, GMA News
