30K volunteers sign up so far for 3-day nat’l vaccination drive

The Department of Health (DOH) said Saturday there are around 30,000 volunteers who have signed up so far for the three-day national vaccination drive from November 29 to December 1.

“[Now] we are happy to note that we have around 30,000 who have already volunteered and are being matched to their local government units. Some of them will actually be coming from the National Capital Region (NCR),” DOH Health Promotion Bureau/Disease Prevention and Control Bureau Director Dr. Beverly Ho said at the Laging Handa briefing.

Pero siyempre (of course), we will need more,” Ho added.

Earlier, the government said it is needing around 160,000 volunteers for the national vaccination drive.

“Marami po kasing nagtatanong kung kailangan may medical background ba bago ka puwede mag-volunteer. So ang sagot po natin doon ay hindi, kasi we actually need educators — ‘yung mga tumutulong po mag-register at tumutulong din po na mag-orient or mag-observe roon sa sites natin to help traffic, at encoders,” Ho said.

(Many are asking if they still need a medical background before the could volunteer. We said, no, because we actually need educators — those who will help in the registration, orientation or doing observation at our sites to help in ensuring order, as well as encoders.)

“Lagi naman po tayo sa Pilipinas, best effort always, lalo na ang healthcare workers natin na nagwo-work na for a very, very long time,” Ho said abouth the possibility that the government may not hit its target of 160,000 volunteers.

(Here in the Philippines, we put our best effort always, especially our healthcare workers who have been working for a very, very long time.)

The National Task Force Against COVID-19 and the National Vaccination Operations Center on Friday said they have adjusted their target vaccination output for the three-day vaccination campaign to nine million jabs instead of 15 million.

Meanwhile, the NTF and NVOC said another round of three-day  vaccination drive will be held from December 15 to 17.

This is to help the country reach the government target of fully vaccinating 54 million Filipinos by the end of the year.

“The Bayanihan Bakunahan on November 29 to December 1 will primarily focus on increasing the Philippines’ coverage of the first dose to 70% and increase the booster jabs, while the December 15 to 17 activities will be focused on administering the second dose and boosters,” the NTF and NVOC said. —LBG, GMA News
