Robredo camp hits slow completion of Marawi rehabilitation

The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday criticized the slow implementation of the rehabilitation of Marawi City four years after its liberation from the pro-ISIS Maute group.

Robredo spokesperson Atty. Barry Gutierrez said the Marawi rehabilitation program started in 2017 but it is still not completed with just months left before President Rodrigo Duterte finishes his term next year.

“Hindi maiksi ‘yung panahon na apat na taon, 2017 pa ito. Alalahanin ninyo, nangyari ito halos isang taon pa lang sa simula ng termino ng administrasyon. Ngayon, patapos na ang termino, eleksyon na, less than one year, tapos ngayon ‘di pa rin natutugunan ng buo itong problemang ito,” he said in Robredo’s weekly radio program, when asked if the Marawi rehabilitation of the Duterte government was at a sluggish pace.

(This isn’t a short period. This started in 2017. Remember, this happened almost a year since the start of Duterte’s administration. Now that his term is about to end, it is already the elections in less than one year. And  this problem is still not solved.)

Duterte’s slow leadership may have influenced the sluggish completion of rehabilitation, Gutierrez also said.

“Hindi ko alam kung ano ang buong kuwento, bakit ganito katagal ang inabot. Bakit hanggang ngayon hindi pa nabibigyan nang buong tulong itong nangangailangan?” he said.

(I don’t know the story behind this but why is rehabilitation slow? Why is the assistance moving at a slow pace?)

“Baka may kinalaman sa uri ng pamumuno? Kailangan mas mabilis ang makukuhang mamumuno para ‘yung ganitong klaseng problema, matutugunan agad,” he added.

(It may be because of the leadership? The next leader should act faster to solve this kind of problem.)

Under the Office of the Vice President’s anti-poverty program, Gutierrez said they were able to provide livelihood and assistance training for displaced Marawi residents.

On Saturday, Duterte vowed a speedy rehabilitation program for war-torn Marawi City, which was liberated after Maute rebels were defeated.

As of July 2021, Task Force Bangon Marami said the overall rehabilitation works are at 70% complete—KG, GMA News
