DOH calls on officials to implement safety protocols during campaigns

The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday called on officials running for elective positions in next year’s elections to implement safety protocols against COVID-19 when holding events.

“Naiintindihan po natin na this is really something that our mga nagkakampanya ay kailangan gawin pero kailangan po meron din po tayong responsibilidad para sumunod tayo sa mga pamantayan para hindi pagmulan ng impeksyon itong ginagawa nating mga activities,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said at a media forum.

(We understand that this is something officials need to do but we also have a responsibility to follow the protocols to prevent infections in our activities.)

“So we call on local governments, we know that this is election time pero sana po wag nating kakalimutan nandito pa rin ang virus at maari magkahawa-hawa ang ating mga kababayan kapag nagpunta diyan,” she added.

(So we call on local governments, we know that this is election time but I hope we won’t forget that the virus is still around and people attending the event may get infected.)

Vergeire said the mandate to handle such instances is up to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

“Ang Department of the Interior and Local Government, together with the local governments concerned, work hand in hand so that they can ensure na maayos ang magiging proseso nitong mga ganitong activiites,” she said.
