NCR COVID-19 reproduction number further slipped to 0.61 –OCTA

COVID-19 reproduction number in the National Capital Region further dropped to 0.61 from 0.74 from the previous week, according to OCTA Research on Tuesday.

Reproduction number, or the number of people that one COVID-19 case can infect, was at 0.88 the week before, OCTA said. A reproduction number that is below 1 indicates that the transmission of the virus is slowing down.

In a tweet, OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David said the seven-day average in NCR also decreased to 1,933.

“This is the lowest since July 31 to August 6, before ECQ was implemented in the region,” David said.

Meanwhile, the region’s positivity rate remained at 12%.

David said the current average daily attack rate (ADAR) in NCR is 13.65 per 100,000. He added that NCR remains at moderate risk for COVID-19.

NCR will remain under Alert Level 4 until October 15 as the government extended the pilot implementation of the new five-level alert system.

Areas under Alert Level 4 are those with high and/or increasing COVID-19 cases while total beds and ICU beds are at high utilization rate.

However, Malacañang on Monday said the government may likely ease quarantine restrictions in NCR due to the lower number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

As of Monday, the Philippines has recorded 2,674,814 COVID-19 cases after 8,292 new ones were added. According to the Department of Health’s tally, the number is the lowest since April 29, 2021, which reported 8,276 new infections. —KBK, GMA News
