Senate seeks arrest of firm execs who supplied face masks to Pharmally

The Senate blue ribbon committee has requested for the issuance of a subpoena and warrants of arrest against officials of Greentrends Trading International Inc.—one of the suppliers of face masks that were procured by the government in 2020.

During the continuation of the Senate probe into the alleged overpriced pandemic goods,  panel director-general Rodolfo Noel Quimbo informed the panel that they failed to serve the subpoena ad testificandum to the following Greentrends officials: Raffy Barcina, Andres Aquino, Ryan Escano, Carlos Agustin, Jayson Espino.

“Subpoena addressed to Aquino, Escano and Bacina, the addresses are all fictitious. A certification was issued by Punong Barangay Maria Teresa Montalbo, stating that said addresses and Greentrends Trading International Inc. [do] not exist in their barangay,” Quimbo said.

The addresses declared by Espino and Agustin were also found to be non-existent.

The declared addresses came from Greentrends’ registration before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

“Greentrends is registered with the SEC and those names are registered as members of the corporation in the SEC but the addresses that they provided to the SEC do not exist,” Quimbo said.

Senator Richard Gordon, chairman of the Senate panel, asked for a formal request for a subpoena and warrants of arrest against the Greentrends officials.

“I would like to request the Senate President to issue a subpoena with warrant of arrest, to compel the attendance of these people and that they be arrested by the [Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms],” Gordon said.

Greentrends was TigerPhil Marketing Corporation’s supplier of 500,000 face masks which was later on procured by Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corporation.

Tigerphil supplied the face masks to Pharmally at P23.90 then Pharmally sold the face masks to Department of Budget and Management-Procurement Service at a unit price of P27.72 on March 25,2020.

Apart from the officials of Greentrends, Gordon also “declared in contempt” Jayson Uson, an official of Pai Li Holdings— a firm being linked to former presidential economic adviser Michal Yang.—LDF, GMA News
