CBCP releases prayer for Eleksyon 2022

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Sunday released a 24-line prayer for the 2022 national and local elections.

The prayer, which was launched on the first Sunday of Advent, was prepared by Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas and was adopted from the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting.

It seeks that the “forthcoming national and local elections may truly reflect the will of the Lord who guides the destinies of nations.”

According to a statement by CBCP President Archbishop Romulo Valles, this prayer is similar to the Oratio Imperata but focuses on the 16 values enshrined in the preamble of the Constitution.

Valles said that the Episcopal Commission on Liturgy recommended that people pray the Oratio Imperata for Protection against the COVID-19 before the Mass as parishes already have several prayers recited during Sunday masses.

Further, the Prayer for the 2022 Elections may be recited every first and third Sunday of the month, while the prayer for the Synod on Synodality on every second and fourth Sunday of the month.

It was the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting that requested the CBCP to endorse its “Prayer Power Campaign” to urge the public “to collectively pray for a peaceful, credible, and transparent” Eleksyon 2022. — DVM, GMA News
