Philippines receives 600K more doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine

Over half a million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine arrived in the Philippines on Friday morning, according to Luisito Santos’ report on Super Radyo dzBB.

A total of 661,200 doses, which were procured by the private sector, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 at 9:14 via a China Airlines flight.

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr., who welcomed the arrival, said 80% of the batch would go to local government units outside the National Capital Region while 20% would go to the private sector.

Also present during the arrival was presidential adviser for entrepreneurship and Go Negosyo founder Joey Concepcion.

Meanwhile, Galvez said the Philippines expects to receive 190,000 doses of Sputnik V (Component 2) this weekend or early next week.

“This shipment of Sputnik V vaccines shall be used for the second dose,” Galvez said in a statement.

“As per our vaccine experts from the Department of Health, the gap between first and second doses of Sputnik V can be as long as six months, so no need to worry because the vaccines are arriving soon,” he added.

The Philippines has received more than 58 million vaccine doses since February 28. —with Virgil Lopez/KBK, GMA News
