The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Tuesday said assistance will be given instantly to residents affected by the granular lockdown, which is set to start in Metro Manila on September 16.
DILG spokesperson Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said local governments will provide food packs and other assistance for the first week.
For the second week, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will distribute food packs to concerned residents.
“Assistance is given instantly,” Malaya told GMA News Online in a text message.
“Food packs and other assistance from the LGUs will be provided for the 1st week while food packs from the DSWD will be given on the second week of granular lockdown,” he added.
Asked about the readiness of the LGUs to enforce granular lockdown, Malaya pointed out that they have been implementing this measure since last year.
“LGUs have been implementing this since last year so they know what to do already,” he added.
Interviewed on GMA News’ Unang Balita, DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said that the assistance that will be given to affected residents is “basically food packs”.
On Monday, the national government released its guidelines on the new alert level system as policies for lockdown, which will have a pilot run in Metro Manila starting September 16.
