The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday reported 63,000 violators of basic health protocols in the past 15 days as several areas were placed under a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

“Eighty-three percent sa kanila ay warning lamang, compared noong ECQ period na 43,000 daily,” Eleazar said over Super Radyo dzBB.

(Eighty-three percent of violators were only given warnings, compared to under the ECQ period with 43,000 daily.)

In Metro Manila, meanwhile, Eleazar said 13,000 were accosted daily for the duration of the MECQ. Of the number, 61% were warned, 34% were fined while 5% were brought to the police station for other offenses.

Being the second strictest quarantine, MECQ has increased mobility for people as more businesses are allowed to open.

In an OCTA Research poll, the majority of Filipinos said they follow health protocols to prevent COVID-19 infection. Specifically, 89% wore face masks, and 85% cleaned their hands using water and soap, or alcohol. — DVM, GMA News
