PNP records 271 new COVID-19 cases bringing total to 36,572

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded a total of 36,572 COVID-19 cases with 271 new infections reported on Thursday, the police organization said.

In a statement, the PNP said 33,885 have already recovered from the disease while 2,579 are still active cases.

The PNP’s death toll due to COVID-19 remained at 108.

According to the PNP, the 107th fatality was a 50-year-old cop assigned in Region 1, while the 108th fatality was a 39-year-old policewoman assigned in Region 3.

The 107th fatality experienced mild COVID-19 symptoms on August 27. He underwent an RT-PCR test which turned positive.

On August 29, the cop, who received his first dose of vaccine on August 6, was rushed to a hospital due to difficulty in breathing but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Meanwhile, the 108th fatality was admitted in a hospital on August 31 due to COVID-19 symptoms. She underwent a swab test which turned positive.

On September 2, she succumbed to pneumonia and acute respiratory failure, according to the PNP.

As of Wednesday, the Department of Health (DOH) has recorded a total of 2,134,005 COVID-19 cases with 12,751 new infections. At least 151,135 are active cases.—AOL, GMA News
