The Department of Education (DepEd) said a total of 21,034,472 or 80.2% of the students recorded last year have enrolled so far for School Year 2021-2022 as of Thursday.
Based on its latest data, the DepEd said 15,320,766 students registered in public schools; 1,132,632 in private schools; and 23,747 in state universities and colleges as well as in local universities and colleges.
At least 4,557,327 students have signed up during the early registration.
The region with the most enrollees is Calabarzon with 2,905,646; followed by Central Luzon with 2,167,516; and National Capital Region with 1,993,601.
For the Alternative Learning System, the DepEd said 184,382 or 30.76% of last year’s students have enrolled so far.
The start of the school year is set on Monday, September 13.
On Wednesday, DepEd Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan appealed to learners and parents not to wait for the last day of enrollment to register.
“Right now, the regular enrollment period is up to September 13, on first day of classes. No announcement yet as to late enrollment,” he told reporters in a message.
Last school year when the classes started on October 5, the total number of enrollees was recorded at 24.7 million.
This was only 89% of the total enrollment during the School Year 2019-2020, according to the DepEd.
Also last school year, around 398,000 students from private schools transferred to public schools amid the pandemic, according to the DepEd.—AOL, GMA News
