Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has expressed support for her father President Rodrigo Duterte’s withdrawal of his candidacy for senator.
In a statement on the Uniteam coalition’s official Facebook page, Sara also supported Senator Bong Go’s withdrawal of his presidential bid.
“The filing of candidacy and withdrawal is a personal decision. We can only support that decision,” Sara said.
Uniteam is the coalition of Sara and presidential aspirant and former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Earlier, President Duterte dropped his senatorial bid hours after his long-time ally Go formally withdrew his certificate of candidacy for president.
Duterte’s formal withdrawal also comes after Sara bared she would support Duterte and six other senatorial aspirants for next year’s polls.
Acting presidential spokesman Secretary Karlo Nograles said Duterte dropped his senatorial bid because he wanted to focus in the pandemic response.
Go said his intention to leave the race was due to objections from his family. —NB, GMA News
