Philippines welcomes over 1.7 million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from UK

The Philippines welcomed on Saturday an additional 1,746,160 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine donated by the United Kingdom (UK) through the COVAX facility.

The shipment arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 past 4 p.m.

Overall, the UK donated 5.22 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine this week alone. The first batch, consisting of 3.19 million doses, arrived on Thursday, followed by 288,000 doses on Friday.

National Task Force Against COVID-19 medical consultant Dr. Ma. Paz Corrales expressed gratitude to the UK government for the donation.

Corrales also urged the public to get vaccinated so that there would be fewer infections and deaths and people could return to normal life.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier declared November 29, 30, and December 1 as Bayanihan, Bakunahan National COVID-19 Vaccination Days.

The government is seeking to administer nine million jabs during the period. Simultaneous vaccination activities will also be held from December 15 to 17.
