Lakas-CMD formally adopts Bongbong-Sara tandem in Eleksyon 2022

The Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party on Wednesday has formally adopted presidential aspirant and former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to run in tandem with its vice presidential bet, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, in the May 2022 elections.

In a virtual meeting, the Lakas-CMD adopted Resolution No. 10, Series of 2021, which formalized the party’s adoption of Marcos Jr., standard-bearer of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), as its presidential candidate.

“Whereas, as Chairman of Lakas-CMD, Mayor Sara Zimmerman Duterte was given the authority and power to choose her presidential running mate,” the resolution read.

“Resolved, as it is hereby resolved, that presidential candidate senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr. is hereby unanimously adopted as the candidate for President of Lakas-CMD and running mate of vice-presidential candidate of Lakas-CMD, Mayor Sara Zimmerman Duterte,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Lakas-CMD also adopted Resolution No. 11, Series of 2021 allowing party president and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez to forge an alliance with other political parties in preparation for next year’s polls.

The resolution, however, noted that the alliance agreement to be negotiated by Romualdez on behalf of the party shall be confirmed by the Lakas-CMD’s National Executive Committee.

“Whereas, the leaders of several political parties, have expressed interest in establishing an alliance with Lakas-CMD for the May 9, 2022 national and local elections,” the resolution stated.

“Resolved as it is hereby resolved, that the President, Ferdinand Martin Romualdez is hereby authorized to set the terms and conditions of the joint undertakings of Lakas-CMD and the preferred political parties toward the victory of their official candidates in the May 09, 2022 national and local elections,” it added.

The Lakas-CMD underscored the importance of building alliances with other political groups, saying that it will “strengthen the party’s political resources and assets aimed at enhancing the winning chances of Lakas-CMD candidates.”

The Davao Mayor thanked the Lakas-CMD members for the adoption of Marcos as its presidential candidate, saying that he is willing “to work with the party and [is] profoundly grateful for the opportunity given to him.”

Duterte also said that they hope to be able to invite more political groups to join in the alliance ahead of the next year’s polls.

“I know that you have many friends outside of LAKAS-CMD and I hope that you will take timeout to talk to them and invite them to join the LAKAS-CMD-PFP Uniteam Alliance for the May 2022 elections. Thank you everyone,” she said.

The resolutions were signed by Duterte, Lakas-CMD co-chairperson Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr., Romualdez, and other execom members.

On November 11, Duterte joined Lakas-CMD after leaving Hugpong ng Pagbabago, the regional party she founded.

Two days later, Duterte filed her certificate of candidacy for vice president for Eleksyon 2022 under Lakas-CMD via the substitution route.
