Malacañang said Monday that President Rodrigo Duterte and his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, remain in a loving relationship.
“May tampuhan, pero wala pong kaduda-duda, nagmamahalan ang mag-ama (There were, somehow, ill feelings but without a doubt, the father and daughter love each other),” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said.
“Family ties will prevail,” he added.
Roque issued his remarks after the President expressed dismay over Mayor Sara’s filing of her certificate of candidacy for vice president for the 2022 polls even if President Duterte’s longtime aide, Senator Bong Go, already filed his own COC for vice president.
“‘Yung decision nila ang ayaw ko na tatakbo siya (Sara). I am sure ‘yung pagtakbo ni Sara ay desisyon nila Bongbong [Marcos] ‘yun,” Duterte said in an interview with with blogger Byron Cristobal for “Banat By.”
(I do not approve of their decision for Sara to run. I am sure Bongbong decided for her.)
After Mayor Sara pursued a 2022 vice presidential run, Go withdrew his certificate of candidacy (COC) and filed another COC for president instead.
Mayor Sara will be running for vice president under Lakas-CMD.
Go, on the other hand, will be the standard bearer of Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS) after being initially fielded as vice presidential bet of the ruling party PDP-Laban wing chaired by President Duterte.
Both Mayor Sara and Go filed their candidacy for vice president and president via substitution of their respective party-mates. — Llanesca T. Panti/RSJ, GMA News
