Bong Go on Sara s claim: PDP-Laban didn t reject anyone

Presidential aspirant and Senator Bong Go on Wednesday said PDP-Laban did not reject anyone following Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s claim that the ruling party turned down her request to support her and former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s candidacies for vice president and president, respectively.

“I will let the PDP leadership clarify these matters in due time. Alam ko naman po na wala kaming tinatanggihan (I know that we never rejected anybody). Being the administration party, we have always exerted efforts to reach out to those who are supportive of [President Rodrigo Duterte],” Go said in a statement.

Go wished Sara well on her election bid, reiterating that he personally supports her candidacy for vice president.

“As I have said earlier, kung ako lang ang tatanungin, siya ang aking sinusuportahan sa pagka-Bise Presidente,” he said.

(If I will be asked, I support her bid for the vice presidency.)

Go also justified the filing of his certificate of candidacy for president under Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS).

“We have joined the PDDS and have followed the internal rules and processes of both PDDS and PDP Laban. We are committed to the PDDS-PDP Laban alliance and will support the  common candidates of both parties,” he said.

Earlier in the day, PDP Laban secretary-general Atty. Melvin Matibag said the members of the ruling party “toed the line” when it decided to support the presidential bid of Go.

Matibag has yet to confirm or deny the statement made by Mayor Sara.

On Tuesday, Marcos and Sara confirmed their team-up as presidential and vice presidential candidates in the next year’s elections.

Marcos will be going against Go, who initially filed a COC for vice president under PDP-Laban, but has substituted a certain Grepor Belgica as the presidential bet of the PDDS.

President Duterte, on the other hand, filed a COC to run for senator also under the PDDS.

The Commission on Elections has yet to resolve the case involving the two factions of PDP-Laban — one controlled by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi and the other by senators Manny Pacquiao and Koko Pimentel. — RSJ, GMA News
