PNP offices outside NCR told to prepare for nationwide enforcement of alert level system

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar directed on Saturday police regional offices outside Metro Manila to prepare for the nationwide implementation of the alert level system for COVID-19 response.

Eleazar urged police personnel to be familiar with the guidelines of the five-tier alert system to ensure proper implementation in the communities.

(We expect that there will be a relaxation of regulations in the provinces or regions in line with the alert level and more people will be allowed to go outside. At the same time, more businesses will also open.)

(I also reminded our police officers to make sure that security is still tight to prevent crimes.)

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said on Friday that the government would implement the alert level system across the country starting next month.

Beginning December 1, the alert level assignments will be determined every 15th and 30th of the month.

Escalations may be done at any time in the middle of the implementation period as warranted while de-escalations can only be done at the end of the two-week assessment period.

The National Capital Region, meanwhile, was placed under Alert Level 2 from November 5 to November 21.

(The alert level system has proven to be effective in helping reduce the number of COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila. The PNP will help to ensure an effective implementation of the system nationwide.)

The PNP chief also encouraged the public to continue observing health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19. — VBL, GMA News
