Civil Defense’s Twitter account hacked –NDRRMC spokesman

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Sunday that it has been locked out from accessing its Twitter account after being hacked some time Saturday midnight.

“We have been locked out from the account. Yes po, the account has been hacked despite all the available security measures we employed,” said Mark Timbal, OCD Officer-in-Charge and National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) spokesperson.

OCD’s Twitter account was seen replying unusual tweets to entrepreneur Elon Musk and SpaceX’s tweets past 12 midnight, that are not related to the country’s disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM).

According to Timbal, their social media specialist and technical staff are looking into this issue and are working to get back the account “at the soonest possible time.” They have also communicated with Twitter and are now waiting for an update on their action.

In a Facebook statement, OCD apologized for the incident and assured the public that their services would continue.

“We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused, and we assure our people that the DRRM-related services continue along with our usual information dissemination drives to promote public safety and preparedness against hazards and disasters.”  —LBG, GMA News
