PhilHealth still reconciling data on claims with hospitals

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) said it is in ?constant dialogue with hospitals to reconcile their data on the supposed billions in unpaid claims to various medical institutions.

To date, Shirley Domingo, PhilHealth’s vice president  for corporate affairs said the state health insurer has already paid ?152.8 billion or 75 percent of the total claims of hospitals.

“Nakikipag-usap pa rin kami sa mga hospital to reconcile the data that sinasabi nilang may utang kami dahil yung iba dito ay return to hospital na at denied claims,” she said in a dzBB interview.

“Tuloy tuloy kaming nakikipag-usap pero hindi naman totoo na wala kaming binabayaran because nakakabayad naman kami specially those non-COVID claims ay on time tayo magbayad diyan,” she added.

The Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines, Inc.’s (PHAPi) earlier said PhilHealth owes private hospitals about P20 billion as of August this year. Due to this, the affected hospitals were forced to downsize to continue operations amid the agency’s non-payment of claims.

Domingo said that they get delayed on the COVID-19 claims because of several issues such as the lack of human resource due to the pandemic and policy issues.

She said around 43 percent of the total paid claims of PhilHealth are for COVID-19 expenses.

“Maraming ginagawa ang PhilHealth to be able to fast-track all these claims kasi alam nating kailangan na kailangan ito ng mga hospitals,” she added.

Domingo also said that PhilHealth president Dante Gierran has coordinated with PHAPi president Jose Rene de Grano twice to explain their side and the ways they do to fast-track all the hospital claims.

According to de Grano, several private hospitals in the National Capital Region and other provinces will announce their plan to disengage from PhilHealth starting next week because of this issue.

“Yung mga ospital po ng General Santos City, mga ospital ng Iloilo City, Cagayan Valley, and then ngayon po nagbabalak ang mga hospital ng Laguna, Quezon, at Cavite and then meron pong sa NCR na malaking hospitals po ‘yan na sinasabi nilang parang walang nangyayari sa pag-uusap nila with PhilHealth,” he said in a separate interview.—Giselle Ombay/LDF, GMA News
