Columbarium allows takeout of urns

A columbarium in Mandaluyong City allows families to take loved ones’ urns home days before All Saints’ Day or Undas.

According to a report on “24 Oras” on Tuesday, even before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Garden of Life Park had allowed families to take urns home.

“Seven days before the Undas, kuhanin ang urn tapos after seven days ng Undas, isasauli,” Garden of Life Park officer-in-charge Andy Natividad said.

Some columbarium-goers said this was more convenient amid the health crisis.

“Bukod sa convenient na, makakaiwas pa sa sakit dahil kahit na open siya, kung halos dikit-dikit kayo, mahirap pa rin,” Mona Rey said.

The Inter-Agency Task Force passed a resolution ordering the closure of all cemeteries from October 29 to November 2 to minimize the risk of superspreader events during Undas.

The public may visit cemeteries, memorial parks, and columbaria only before October 29 or after November 2.

During these allowable visits, visitors must be limited to 10 people per group, and the venue must only allow 30% of capacity, though this can be raised to 50% if the local government unit authorizes it. Ma. Angelica Garcia/DVM, GMA News
