Philippines receives additional 3 million Sinovac vaccines in preparation for booster shots

The Philippines on Sunday received an additional 3,000,000 doses of the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines, which the country is eyeing to use for booster shots that were just recently approved by the Health Department.

The Sinovac vaccines arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Sunday evening, comprising 2 million procured by the government, and 1 million donated by the Chinese government.

“This demonstrates the kind of friendship by the Chinese government and Chinese people to the Philippine government and Philippine people,” Chinese Ambassador Huang Xillian said upon the arrival of the additional doses.

The doses were welcomed by Vaccine Czar Carlito Galvez Jr.

“Ang nakikita natin, preparation na rin natin ito sa gagawin nating vaccination for the third dose. Nag-announce na ang DOH for booster for our health workers, our senior citizens, and those with comorbidities, immunocompromised, they have the option,” said Galvez.

(What we see is that this is in preparation for the third dose. The DOH had announced booster shots for health workers, senior citizens, and those with comorbidities and immunocompromised.)

According to data from the National Task Force Against COVID-19, the Philippines received a total of 97,678,340 doses of vaccines as of October 24, 2021.

Of the total, 55,506,176 have been administered — 29,891,810 for the first dose, and 25,614,366 for the complete dose. — DVM, GMA News
