Philippines logs 5,807 new COVID-19 infections; active cases at 63,051

The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday reported 5,807 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the nationwide tally to 2,751,667.

Active cases, meanwhile, stood at 63,051.

Of these cases, 77.7% are mild, 6.5% are asymptomatic, 8.89% are moderate, 4.9% are severe, and 2.1% are in critical condition.

Total recoveries climbed by 9,578 to 2,647,031, while 65 new fatalities pushed the death toll to 41,585.

Data also showed that 55% of 4,300 intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 patients nationwide were in use.

At least 40% of the 14,500 ward beds in the country were utilized, while 36% of the 4,100 ward beds in the National Capital Region (NCR) were in use.

All laboratories were operational since October 21, but two laboratories failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System, the DOH said.

Twenty-nine duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 27 are recoveries.

Fifty-one cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths following final validation.

The DOH also reminded the public that Halloween and Christmas parties are permitted, as long as these gatherings are done within the “bubble” of their families.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the public should avoid being in 3Cs (closed, crowded, close-contact) places. — VBL, GMA News
