8,639 minors with comorbidities vaccinated for COVID-19 -DOH

More than 8,000 children aged 12 to 17 years old with comorbidities were vaccinated for COVID-19 following the start of inoculations for the said age group this month.

At the Laging Handa public briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said a total of 8,639 children with comorbidities were vaccinated, with four children experiencing reactions on Friday.

Vergeire said one case was anxiety-related, but vaccinators were able to manage the patient. Three others had allergies.

She said the patients were subject to further assessment.

Vergeire, meanwhile, said they were looking at expanding the pediatric vaccination to areas outside the National Capital Region.

“Kapag nakita po natin na mukha namang talagang maayos ang nagiging pagpapatupad natin, i-expand na po natin. I think parents have recognized the value of the vaccines,” she said.

(We will expand if the initial rollout has been implemented well. I think parents have recognized the value of the vaccines.)

“So we are looking at that already, how we are going to expand in the coming weeks.”

According to Vergeire, the government was targeting to vaccinate at least 70% of the total population by December.

She said the government was targeting 500,000 jabs per day this October, 800,000 jabs per day in November, and 600,000 jabs in December.

Vergeire said the government recorded more than 700,000 jabs per day this Friday, October 22.

“Sa tingin namin, mukhang kaya nating gawin lahat ito para bumilis ang bakunahan, mas maraming maprotektahan dito sa ating bansa,” the health undersecretary said.

(We think we can all do this to speed up the vaccination, to protect more people in our country.)

Vergeire said an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for vaccines was needed for children aged five to 11 years old to be vaccinated for COVID-19. — DVM/VBL, GMA News
