AFP chief Faustino promoted to four-star general

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Lieutenant General Jose Faustino Jr. has been promoted to the rank of general, the AFP’s Public Affairs Office said Friday.

In a ceremony on Thursday, President Rodrigo Duterte personally donned the rank to Faustino during his official visit at the Bicol International Airport in Daraga, Albay.

“With the help of the hardworking men and women of the AFP, rest assured that the military’s tradition of excellence and professionalism is continuously upheld,” Faustino said.

The traditional military honors will be accorded to Faustino on Friday at the AFP General Headquarters in Quezon City.

Faustino became the AFP chief on July 31 when General Cirilito Sobejana bowed out from military service after reaching the mandatory retirement age.

Faustino served as the commander of the Joint Task Force Mindanao and as the acting commanding general of the Philippine Army.

He also took military positions such as battalion and brigade commander in Western Mindanao and commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command among others.

He is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Maringal” Class of 1988, according to the AFP.

Aside from Faustino, Duterte also donned a new rank to Lieutenant General Bartolome Vicente Bacarro, commander of the Southern Luzon Command.

The appointments of Faustino and five other AFP officers have been approved by Duterte effective September 15, 2021, the AFP said. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
