1Sambayan: Reject Marcos lies, historical distortions in election bid

Opposition coalition 1Sambayan on Tuesday called out former senator Bongbong Marcos for spreading lies and historical distortions about martial law as he seeks the presidency in Eleksyon 2022.

Bongbong, son of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos, formally announced that he will run for president in next year’s polls.

He said he will “bring back a unifying form of leadership in the country.”

For 1Sambayan, Bongbong had been revising the real events of his father’s reign as dictator “through the use of paid internet trolls and the exploitation of the flaws of social media.”

The coalition also maintained that Marcos is not the hero, adding that the his regime was not the “Golden Era” of the country.

“It is by all means the exact opposite,” 1Sambayan said in a statement.

GMA News Online sought the reaction of the Marcos camp, but has yet to get a response.

Youth must resist martial law lies

The youth must also resist Bongbong’s attempt to revise the events that transpired during his father’s leadership, 1Sambayan said.

“Do not be deceived by paid internet trolls who peddle lies after lies, so that what happened during the Marcos era will not repeat itself at your own time,” the coalition wrote.

It also noted that there were several cases that prove Marcos’ plunder:

– $658 million or P32.9 billion in Swiss bank accounts in the landmark 2003 case of Republic v. Sandiganbayan against the Marcos family

– $3.36 million or P168 million in the account of Arelma, Inc. in the 2012 consolidated cases of Marcos Jr. v. Republic and Imelda Marcos v. Republic

“In these cases, the surviving members of the Marcos family claimed the money were theirs, and that was put on record in the court proceedings. In the second case, Bongbong Marcos even claimed ownership of the Arelma deposit. They do not even hide the plunder!” said 1Sambayan.

DepEd must prevent troll posting on martial law

1Sambayan also called on the  Department of Education to create a committee that will study and craft guidelines for the inclusion of the Marcos era in history books.

This will prevent trolls on Facebook or Youtube in influencing the facts behind the Martial Law.

It was also previously revealed that Commission on Human Rights is involved in the education and promotion of programs to address historical revisionism. —LDF, GMA News
