PNP death toll due to COVID-19 now 110

Another personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) has died due to COVID-19, bringing the death toll to 110 as of Wednesday.

In an update, PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar described the latest fatality as a 52-year-old male cop assigned in Western Visayas.

On September 9, the cop was rushed to hospital in Iloilo City when he experienced difficulty in breathing.

On the same day, he succumbed due to cardiac arrest and pneumonia, the PNP said.

A post mortem examination and swab test were done on the deceased personnel, which turned positive.

He completed his COVID-19 vaccine shots on August 3.

“I would like to extend the PNP’s sincerest condolences to the bereaved family and assure them that all benefits and assistance will be given,” Eleazar said.

A total of 37,566 COVID-19 cases among PNP personnel have been recorded with 229 new infections.

According to the PNP, at least 34,771 have already recovered from the disease while 2,685 are still active cases. 

At least 124,758 or 56.02% of PNP personnel have already completed their COVID-19 vaccination and 85,877 or 38.56% have received their first dose.

Around 12,076 or 5.42% of PNP personnel have yet to be vaccinated. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
