Enrollment for SY 2021-2022 exceeds last year’s record –DepEd

Enrollment for School Year 2021-2022 has exceeded the record of the previous academic year based on the data of the Department of Education (DepEd) as of Wednesday.

A total of 26,308,875 or 100.3% of students have enrolled for the current school year. The enrollment last school year was recorded at 26,227,022.

However, this is still lower compared to the enrollment before the COVID-19 pandemic, which is around 27 million during the School Year 2019-2020.

The regions that exceeded the previous year’s enrollment were  Ilocos, Cagayan, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Western Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Cordillera.

Meanwhile, the region with the most enrollees were Calabarzon with 3,440,205; followed by Central Luzon with 2,579,984; and the National Capital Region with 2,415,663.

The DepEd said 20,029,767 students have enrolled in public schools; 1,668,489 in private schools; and 53,292 in state universities and colleges, as well as in local universities and colleges.

It also said 4,557,327 students have signed up during the early registration.

For the Alternative Learning System, the DepEd said 199,422 or 33.27% of last year’s students have enrolled so far.

The DepEd has extended the enrollment period for School Year 2021-2022 to September 30 after classes officially started on September 13. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
