The government has completed the distribution of cash aid to vulnerable households in the National Capital Region (NCR) following the implementation of strict lockdowns last month to curb the spread of COVID-19, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said.
In a report to President Rodrigo Duterte aired on Thursday, Año said a total of 11,226,946 people in the NCR benefited from the cash transfers. He said the government spent P11.226 billion in Metro Manila for the program, which has a budget of P11.256 billion.
Outside Metro Manila, the progress of the distribution is as follows:
- Laguna (87.02% distribution rate, representing 2.362 million recipients)
- Bataan (61.73% distribution rate, representing 431,054 recipients)
The cash aid provides P1,000 per individual or up to P4,000 maximum per household.
Metro Manila was placed under an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ)—the strictest form of lockdown— from August 6 to 20, in a bid to slow the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus in the country.
