Eleazar orders police chiefs to update priority targets in anti-drug campaign

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar on Monday directed all chiefs of police to update their list of priority targets as they intensify the campaign against illegal drugs.

In a statement, Eleazar said this was in accordance with an order from President Rodrigo Duterte and Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año.

“Inatasan ko na ang lahat ng chief of police na i-update ang kani-kanilang priority targets lalo na ang mga nagbebenta ng iligal na droga sa kani-kanilang lugar,” he said.

(I directed all chiefs of police to update their respective priority targets especially those who sell illegal drugs in their area.)

Eleazar pointed out that illegal drug syndicates still have a market in the country considering the confiscation of around 809 kilos of shabu in operations last week.

He encouraged the public to cooperate with the authorities to eradicate the illegal activity.

Responding to reports of some police personnel getting involved in the illegal drug trade, Eleazar said that the PNP does not tolerate them.

“We assure our kababayan that we will not tolerate abuses and wrongdoings in our ranks in our aggressive campaign against illegal drugs,” he added. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
