DOH-procured ambulances overpriced by P1 million per unit –Lacson

The Department of Health  (DOH) allegedly procured costly ambulances with equipment that were distributed in Calabarzon, Senator Panfilo Lacson on Thursday said.

In a text message to GMA News Online, the senator cited DOH documents showing that the health department spent P2.5 million per unit of ambulances including an automated external defibrillator (AEB).

But Lacson said the vehicle, without the AEB, must only be worth around P1.27 million. The AEB, meanwhile, is around P300,000.

This means an ambulance unit must only cost around P1.5 million to P1.6 million.

“In Calabarzon alone, the DOH distributed 98 ambulance units,” the senator added.

Asked for clarification on which document Lacson sourced it from, GMA News has yet to receive a reply.

DOH was recently under fire for the overpriced personal protective equipment that was purchased by the controversial Department of Budget and Management – Procurement Service (DBM-PS).

Senator Franklin Drilon demanded the DOH’s accountability in the purchase as the DBM-PS only procured the said supplies in the health department’s behalf.—LDF, GMA News
